Janet Grogan (BA, Simmons) joined the staff of The Mediation Group after many years of collaboration. She has over fifteen years of human resources and organizational development experience dealing with a range of issues such as benefits, and internal work place conflicts. She has developed policy, conducted training, facilitated and implemented strategic planning and has a track record of mediating disputes and creating effective solutions for internal resolution.
Janet most recently spent five years as the Director of Human Resources at The Community Builders, Inc., a nationally recognized multi-state nonprofit developer and manager of affordable housing. Among her responsibilities there, Janet investigated, mediated and/or adjudicated all employee relations matters and consulted to leadership on a wide range of issues.
Janet also spent 10 years in a number of capacities at the Massachusetts Port Authority, handling a full range of employee-relations issues with both union and non-union employees including complaints of discrimination and harassment. She was responsible for policy development and implementation and the realignment of staff and responsibilities during a time of organizational change.
She taught for three years at the Law Center at UMass-Boston where she was also trained, and worked as a mediator in local district courts. Prior to joining the Law Center, she spent 9 years as a lay advocate and trainer in the Legal Services system specializing in disability benefits and issues.
Janet is a member of the Board of Directors of the Somerville Homeless Coalition, is active in NEHRA's non-profit SIG, is a member of the Working Group to Increase Diversity in CDC's and is a former Vice-Chair of the Board of the Episcopal City Mission. She has consulted to a variety of non-profit groups.
