Jane Honoroff, LICSW, MSW (Simmons), has been a practitioner in the mental health and social work field since 1969 and a mediator since 1984. She is a founding partner in The Mediation Group (TMG). Honoroff also conducts a private psychotherapy practice.
Honoroff's experience in the mental health field covers a broad range of delivery systems. She spent a number of years at the Somerville Mental Health Clinic working on a child abuse treatment team. In addition, she has worked in Boston area hospitals providing in-patient psychiatric and medical social work services. She continues to provide supervision to social work clinicians and students and also conducts weekly consultations to advocates at Greater Boston Legal Services. In 1989 Honoroff completed a certificate training by Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell in "Critical Incident Stress Debriefing" and has participated in numerous debriefings.
As a principal of TMG, Honoroff specializes in mediating family issues such as divorce, post-divorce, nontraditional family issues, family business, and estate settlement. She also handles all intakes for TMG's family mediation program.
Honoroff also designs and conducts dispute resolution skills trainings. She has provided training for a variety of clients including a public school system, a medical school administration, health care professionals, the Middlesex Probate Court Clinic, and a number of area mental health clinics. Honoroff has made regular presentations to law students at Northeastern University. In addition, she serves on the Adjunct Faculty at Boston University School of Social Work.
Bringing skills from her clinical experience to mediation, Honoroff encourages parties to clarify their needs and interests, listen effectively, and articulate feelings that bear on the case. In the process of reaching agreement, parties gain new perspective and establish respect for one another and themselves. This approach is especially useful in disputes where the long-term relationship of the parties must be maintained.
Honoroff is a Diplomate with the National Association of Social Workers, a Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work with the American Board of Examiners and a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution. She received her M.S.W. from Simmons College Graduate School of Social Work in 1979.
