Mary Jeanne Tufano, Esq.
Mary Jeanne Tufano currently divides her time between Oxford, England and Cambridge, Mass. She has an independent dispute resolution practice, providing arbitration, mediation and adjudicatory hearings to both private parties and government agencies.
In addition to her work at The Mediation Group, Mary Jeanne serves as an arbitrator on panels for the American Arbitration Association, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Board of Conciliation and Arbitration.
Mary Jeanne served as an Administrative Law Judge with the Massachusetts Labor Relations Commission from 1988 to 1995, where she adjudicated numerous labor management disputes involving terminations, layoffs, health insurance, performance evaluations, subcontracting and other issues.
From 1995 until 2001, Mary Jeanne was in a private law practice, where she represented, advised and trained employees and unions on labor and employment issues, including health and safety, wage and hour, disability and discrimination issues. She also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Massachusetts Department of Labor and Industries, where she represented the state in litigation and administrative hearings to enforce employment, health and safety and public construction statutes. Mary Jeanne also worked for several years in a business litigation practice, representing clients in contract, unfair trade practice, employment, intellectual property, civil rights and real estate disputes.
Mary Jeanne received a B.A. from Wellesley College as a Wellesley Scholar in 1979, and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1982. In addition, she completed a Graduate Certificate Program in Dispute Resolution at the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2002.
Mary Jeanne was a contributor to A Guide to the Massachusetts Public Employee Collective Bargaining Law, 8th ed., Donahue Institute for Governmental Services, June 1993; and a chapter editor to A Judicial Guide to Labor and Employment Law, Flaschner Judicial Institute, 1990.
Mary Jeanne is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) and the Boston Bar Association (BBA.) She is a former Co-Chair of the MBA’s Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining Practice Group, and is a current member of the BBA’s Labor and Employment Section ADR Committee.
