Michael Stone joins TMG’s roster of mediators and arbitrators after having been a trial lawyer for more than 40 years, most recently as a partner in the Boston firm of Peabody & Arnold.  His practice focused on professional liability claims, representing lawyers, architects and engineers, contractors, real estate and insurance brokers and agents.  Mike earned BS and MS degrees in engineering from Columbia University and was a practicing engineer and assistant professor of engineering prior to joining the legal profession This technical background and training provided valuable tools in his practice of law.   

In addition, Mike has acted as counsel in significant commercial and business litigation disputes arising from a wide range of business activities.   His experience included representation of clients in product liability claims as well as bad faith and insurance coverage matters, and he also represented plaintiffs in claims involving serious personal injury.  He tried numerous cases in state and federal courts, administrative agencies including professional licensing boards and private arbitrations, and argued many cases with reported decisions in the Massachusetts Court of Appeals, Supreme Judicial Court and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.  Mike has long been a savvy consumer of mediation and arbitration services, having participated in a wide range of matters including design and construction, attorney malpractice, real estate disputes, personal injury, and complex commercial claims arising out of business disputes. 

Mike has been recognized for his trial skills as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and for many years has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and as a New England and Massachusetts Super Lawyer.  He lectures on issues relating to professional liability and insurance matters and mediation techniques for both bar groups and industry panels, including the American Bar Association, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and the Real Estate Bar Association, and has served as an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Program.
