Mediation
David Grossbaum has practiced law since 1985. He is a graduate of Boston College Law School, magna cum laude, and the University of Vermont, cum laude. His legal career began as a law clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court, assisting in both civil and criminal cases. He then worked as a trial and appellate prosecutor for the Essex County District Attorney's office, arguing numerous cases in the Massachusetts Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court and trying non-jury and jury cases. Since then, he has practiced as a civil litigator and trial attorney, most recently with the law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, where he was a partner for twenty years. David’s practice focused on insurance coverage matters and on the representation of professionals in liability matters, including lawyers, accountants, real estate agents, insurance agents, construction professionals, securities brokers, and miscellaneous professionals. His practice has also included representation of clients in cases involving personal injury, products liability, and fidelity and surety bonds. Through his representation of professionals and insurers, he has been deeply involved in underlying matters concerning bankruptcy, business transactions, corporate, domestic relations, patents, real estate, state and federal taxation, and trust and estates. David has also represented lawyers in disciplinary matters before the Board of Bar Overseers. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
David has written and spoken extensively on topics involving insurance coverage, legal ethics, and legal malpractice. He was recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer for professional liability-defense for 17 years. He was selected for inclusion in the list of Best Lawyers in America for insurance law from 2018 to 2026 and for legal malpractice defense from 2024 to 2026 . In 2022, Boston Magazine listed David as a "Top Lawyer" in the area of professional liability defense. He has been active as a member and in leadership roles in the American Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association, and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. David was recently appointed by the Supreme Judicial Court to serve on the Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct and by the Board of Bar Overseers to serve as a hearing officer in disciplinary matters. He has also served as an arbitrator.
David received his mediation certification and training from the Community Dispute Settlement Center and has been involved in volunteer mediations for that organization in the Massachusetts courts. As a lawyer, he participated in countless mediations over the course of his 40-year legal career and is a strong believer in the value and effectiveness of mediation. He will delve deeply into the nature of the dispute and the strengths and weaknesses of the claims and defenses of each party, and will be determined, creative, and relentless in helping the parties find a resolution.
