Family Business Mediation

At The Mediation Group, we know disputes over the family business can be overwhelming and, at many times, painful, especially when dealing with succession, sibling conflict, and non-family involvement. We understand that resentment, emotional distance, and power imbalances can accompany this process. We can offer support to work through these often deep-seated disputes in a warm, civil, compassionate environment. Our team is dedicated not only to helping you to make important family business decisions, but also to start a process aimed at preserving and healing your relationships.

We are here to help you through this process every step of the way. The first step is a phone call. After that initial conversation, one of our highly experienced mediators will reach out to learn more about you and your unique situation to guide you through our process. Once all parties agree to mediation, we can schedule the first session.

What to Expect During Mediation?

Handling family business conflict doesn’t have to be an expensive, impersonal, and time-consuming experience involving courtroom litigation. In contrast, our highly experienced mediators, including a lawyer/ mediator, can de-escalate conflict and help you co-create nuanced, flexible, and practical solutions to whatever issues you and your family are facing at just a fraction of the cost of litigating.

Our mediation sessions are conducted by two mediators with relevant experience, Session length and frequency may depend based on the issues to be discussed. If all parties reach an agreement, you can request a drafted Memorandum of Agreement or a Term Sheet reflecting all aspects of the settlement for an additional fee (see below).

How Much Does Family Business Mediation Cost?

Corporate litigation is often a costly, draining experience, and when family members are involved, it can worsen existing conflict with potentially long-term consequences. With mediation, you can efficiently work through family conflict in an empathetic, respectful setting without the need for lengthy courtroom disputes. Parties may even learn new skills for communicating with other family members.

In contrast to litigation, we charge only $500 - $550 / hour for each session for two mediators and $650 / hour when attorneys are present, with an optional drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding or Term Sheet for $350 / hour.
