Nontraditional Family Mediation

At The Mediation Group, we understand the complications that might come with your nontraditional family structure. Whether you’re looking into divorce/separation, determining assisted reproductive decisions, negotiating a relationship with your child’s sperm donor, surrogate, or biological parents, involving a grandparent or a new significant other, or something else entirely, we are here to provide a plan that addresses your unique situation.

Our team is here to help you through this process every step of the way. The first step is a phone call. After that initial conversation, one of our highly experienced mediators will reach out to learn more about you and your unique situation and guide you through our process. Once both parties agree to mediation, we can schedule the first session.

What to Expect During Mediation

Navigating issues relevant to your family structure doesn’t have to be an expensive, impersonal, and arduous task involving courtroom litigation - and it doesn’t have to be something that you ignore and hope goes away, either. Our highly experienced mediators can provide a warm, respectful, and compassionate environment to co-create informed, holistic, practical solutions to whatever issues you’re facing.

If you’re looking to separate but are not legally married, we will gladly mediate any of your issues, including parenting plans if applicable. If you are looking for information about mediation around divorce, we can help with that too. We know that new issues often arise during this complicated process (for example, integrating a new partner into the family life or establishing a new parenting schedule), and when they do, we are here to provide whatever support you may need.

How Much Does Mediation Cost?

Our services are $500 / hour for two mediators. We usually meet for two-hour sessions. There is an additional cost of $350 / hour for drafting a document reflecting your decisions. We structure our rates to make sure that your divorce or separation mediation solves more problems than it creates.

For any issues unrelated to legal divorce/separation that may take fewer sessions to mediate, our services are still only $500 / hour for two mediators.
